Project Completion at London Bridge Station


Northern Escalator Installations LLP (NEILLP) has recently completed one of its largest prestige escalator installation projects on behalf of Kone PLC at London Bridge; the fourth busiest station in the country, which is part of a £6.5bn London Bridge redevelopment program. The station brings around 54 million passengers into the city each year.
Northern Escalator Installations LLP began the project in 2015 to install 26 new escalators, with the completion of the final two units in June 2017.
At peak times, more than 16,000 passengers an hour will travel down escalators from the platforms to this vast open area, the size of the pitch at Wembley stadium, connecting to new destinations.
London Bridge is a central London railway terminus and connected to London Underground station in Southwark, occupying a large area on three levels immediately south-east of London Bridge and 1.6 miles (2.6 km) east of Charing Cross. The main line station is the oldest railway station in London fare zone 1 and one of the oldest in the world, having opened in 1836. It is one of two main line termini in London to the south of the River Thames, the other being Waterloo.
London Bridge Station will fully reopen in January 2018; with improved facilities and two-thirds more space for passengers.

A busy time in Europe at Northern Escalator Installations LLP, April 2017 saw removal and installations on all fronts, with four escalators installed at Strängnäs station Sweden, replacement of two escalators at Farsta station Stockholm; and the removal and installation of two escalators at Auber station Paris.

Danny Newton Operations Co-ordinator


Northern Escalator Installations LLP (NEILLP) is delighted to announce the appointment of an Operations Co-ordinator within their transport division.
Danny Newton will be responsible for the scheduling and co-ordination of escalator installation haulage throughout the U.K. and Europe. Danny comes with a strong haulage and transportation background; for the previous twelve years he has worked as a transport manager for a local freight company involved in storage, haulage and distribution.
A keen dog lover, away from work Danny and his wife are volunteers with Greyhound Rescue and Greyhound Rescue Awareness.
He enjoys all sport; in particular football and cricket, and has just begun to take up golf again. Gareth Judson, Operations Director (NEILLP), said "Danny brings with him significant commercial haulage planning expertise, he is enthusiastic with a good work ethic attitude, and we wish him every success in his new role."


Scandanavian Expansion at Northern Escalators GmbH


With continued demand for Northern Escalators GmbH (NE GmbH) services throughout Europe, the parent company Northern Escalator Installations LLP (NEILLP) has taken the strategic decision to open a dedicated office base in Stockholm, to service the Scandinavian market sector of Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. The new Stockholm base will be known as Northern Escalators AB, and will enable (NE GmbH) to service customer requirements more effectively within this region. The new division of (NE GmbH) is officially operating from 1st December 2016.

Swedish Success for Northern Escalators GmbH


Northern Escalators GmbH has been awarded a total of 65 new escalator installations on behalf Otis Sweden, one of the world's largest manufacturers of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways. The escalator installations are part of a new subway line (two new stations) at Odenplan and Stockholm City station. The installation work at Odenplan (21 escalators), was completed at the end of November 2016, and after full test and commissioning was handed-over to OTIS. The further installation of 44 escalators awarded to Northern Escalators GmbH at Stockholm City stations will commence on December 11th 2016 Throughout 2016 Northern Escalators GmbH has also worked for ThyssenKrupp on escalator replacements at the Stockholm Metro, and has replaced six units, with a further twelve escalators installed tested and commissioned. Northern Escalators GmbH is scheduled to continue replacement work on behalf of ThyssenKrupp throughout 2017.


Northern Escalators GmbH French Experience


Northern Escalators GmbH, the German sister company of Northern Escalator Installations LLP, is proud to announce significant installation contracts acquired with Schindler Group at two major developments in France. The first contract is with Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP) the state-owned public transport operator responsible for most of the public transport in Paris and its surrounding Île-de-France region including the Paris Métro, tram and bus services and part of the Réseau Express Régional (RER) network. The Escalator installation project is part of a scheduled 400 new and replacement escalators to be installed over the next five years within the Paris Métro, starting with a planned 40 replacements and 20 new escalators for 2017. Schindler have also agreed a second contract of 30 escalators planned for the Rennes Metro in 2017, with installation work on all units beginning in December 2016. Rennes is a vibrant University City and Brittany’s administrative capital. All installation work includes transportation of escalators to site, full build up, testing and commissioning of escalator units by our qualified team of field engineers.


High Profile Projects in Jerusalem for Northern Escalators GmbH


Northern Escalators GmbH (NEGmbH) recently began major project work on behalf of Electra Ltd, one of the strongest performing companies on Israel’s bustling business landscape, incorporating large-scale electromechanical systems, construction and infrastructure projects. The escalator Installation project is part of the wide-ranging extension to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport, including six OTIS 610 NPT moving walksways and five OTIS 508 NCE escalators. The installation work is scheduled to take a period of 3 months, with (NEGmbH) engaged in providing a team of qualified field engineers for build-up, testing and commissioning. The project commenced in November 2016.


Northern Escalators GmbH at Hauma Train Station Jerusalem


Northern Escalators GmbH (NEGmbH) has also been involved at Jerusalem Hauma train station which links the new high speed railway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, scheduled for completion in 2018. (NEGmbH) involvement was at every stage of the strategic planning process, addressing every aspect of the development life cycle, from supporting Electra Ltd at OTIS Guangzhou factory with quality inspections, through to the on-going installation of twelve OTIS 520 NPE heavy duty escalators at Hauma train station Jerusalem. Northern Escalators GmbH is in continuing negotiations to supply further qualified field engineers on build-up, test and commissioning works.



Northern Escalator Installations LLP - Proud Involvement in Crossrail at Paddington Underground Station:

A Modern Take on a Victorian Icon


Northern Escalator Installations LLP is proud to be involved in the London Crossrail Underground project, and to have won the 1.5 million pound contract to install 15 escalators at the new Paddington station on behalf Otis Ltd, the world's largest manufacturer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways.
The Crossrail Paddington Station is being built directly below Departures Road and Eastbourne Terrace and will offer a superior travelling experience with smoother interchanges and improved accessibility, easing congestion and providing space for future growth in passenger numbers.
Originally built in 1853, it is the design legacy of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and the architect Matthew Digby Wyatt. The new Paddington station is a modern take on a Victorian icon!
Built to the south of Brunel’s iconic 19th century station, the new station spans three levels with two entrances into the station via a new pedestrianised zone.
The station will take the form of an underground box measuring 260m long, 25m wide and 23m deep
As passengers descend into the station via escalator or lift, the station box is lined with flush-jointed brick, perforated in places for acoustic absorption. Other materials are equally durable; glass, bronze and anodised aluminium, plus the stainless steel of the common components such as the escalators.
The construction of the station which started in October 2011 is due for completion during 2017.



Northern Escalator Installations LLP at Prestige Office Development: Minster Court, London EC3


Northern Escalator Installations LLP (NEILLP), the escalator installation and removal specialist, has recently completed a major project to remove sixteen escalators from the prestigious office development at Minster Court London EC3, on behalf of 777 Demolition Ltd.
The removal project included a range of specialty services undertaken by NEILLP, from feasibility and site surveys, to advising the customer prior to any works being carried out, consulting with builders and architects, producing detailed RAMS, supplying transportation and cranage for the escalators being removed, through to gaining authority for road closure and arranging traffic management where necessary.
A dedicated Project Manager was appointed at the beginning of the work to be our customer’s point of contact, throughout the whole of the removal operation.
The removal of the escalators took approximately four weeks from the start of the project to completion.
Minster Court is built on the site of what was an ancient convent around 1,000 years ago, which is the source of inspiration for much of the Post-Modern Gothic architectural building design.
Minster Court was the headquarters of the London Underwriting Centre, one of the main hubs of the financial services industry in London. At its peak the building handled 3500-4000 brokers a day.
The full completion of the Minster Court refurbishment will see this iconic building transformed into modern open plan office space.



Northern Escalator Installations LLP - Major Scenic Elevator Installation at London Commercial Development Project


Northern Escalator Installations LLP (NEILLP) has recently been awarded the contract to install eighteen bespoke architectural scenic elevators for a major commercial development project, at Bloomberg buildings in central London.
The project includes Northern Escalator Installations LLP transporting the consignment of elevators from Finland, via its own dedicated specialist transportation fleet, on behalf of Kone plc.
Full testing of all elevators will be undertaken at our purpose built testing rig facility prior to transportation, installation, and commissioning of this project at the London location.

Germany first for Northern Escalators GmbH at H&M Retail-Clothing, Mülheim-Kärlich


Northern Escalators GmbH the German sister company of Northern Escalator Installations LLP has achieved its first installation project in Mülheim-Kärlich Germany, for H&M the Swedish multinational retail-clothing company. This marks significant progress for Northern Escalators GmbH in establishing their relationship with Kone in Germany.

It is also the first time that an installation in Germany has been completed using LOLER certified lifting equipment in line with current Euro codes and BS numbers, EN 1993-1-1: 2005, BS 2853:2011 and BS 7121-1: 2016. Northern Escalator Installations LLP holds ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 18001:2007 certification, and these quality management systems which we have in place have enabled us to impart our knowledge and experience to our sister company, resulting in a safe, efficient and timely completion of Northern Escalators GmbH’s first installation.

Northern Escalator Installations LLP Design Bespoke Mobile Crane System for London Underground


Northern Escalator Installations LLP has designed and installed a bespoke mobile crane system for London Underground (LU).
The challenge was to design a crane system which, in principle, would provide a simple solution for the efficient removal and installation of rail track, at the same overcoming the problems of space limitation.
The crane system combines strength, durability and maintenance accessibility, all in compliance with the stringent regimes of (LU), Fire Prevention and HSE.
The unique mobile crane systems are situated at Liverpool Street and Paddington underground stations and have been specifically designed by Northern Escalator Installations LLP to enable fast, efficient removal of worn track, and the installation of new replacement track.
The crane systems are fitted to the walls of the tube tunnel, operating on their own overhead track. All operational parts are fire resistant, and the whole system was fully tested in accordance with EU BS28532011 legislation.
This was a two year project with successful completion of installation in January 2016. Technical Manager Trevor Cox said “Northern Escalator Installations LLP was the (LU) preferred service provider for this project; and was chosen on the basis of its extensive expertise in offering bespoke engineered installation packages, tailor-made to fit the client’s individual needs."


Northern Escalator Installations LLP On-The-Ball at Anfield Football Stadium Liverpool


Anfield, the historic home of Liverpool FC football since its formation in 1892, with its unique atmosphere, holds a very special place in the history of the City of Liverpool, English professional football, and its association with football the world over. The stadium is undergoing a planned phase of re-development and increased seating capacity.
Phase 1 of this expansion is the Anfield stadium main stand, which will increase the number of seats by 8,290 to give a stadium capacity of around 53,783. Also in Phase 1 will be the extensive re-development of the Liverpool FC corporate entertainment suite.
Within this development Northern Escalator Installations LLP has been successful in winning the contact to install the first three, of a planned programme of twelve new escalators.

New Design Engineer at Northern Escalator Installations LLP


Northern Escalator Installations LLP (NEI LLP) has recruited a new design engineer to enhance its design office team. Chris Igoe has worked for NEI LLP on a freelance/part-time basis for over 3 months and became a full time member of staff in January 2016.
Chris joins the company well qualified in the most up-to-date design engineering technology. He holds an M.Eng. from Leeds University and is a member of; (ICE), Institute of Civil Engineers, (ISTRUCTE), Institute of Structural Engineers, and (CIHT) The Chartered Institute of Highways & Transportation.
In his spare time Chris is a keen badminton league player.

Investment in Bespoke Built Cranes Key to Increased Business Capacity

Northern Escalator Installations LLP, the leading U.K. and international installation and commissioning service within the escalator and elevator industry, has recently taken delivery of two new 90 TRX Valla mobile cranes.
Continuing investment in new and up to date plant allows the Company to meet increased business capacity and to further enhance their installation capabilities.
The two new “bespoke” Valla cranes have been manufactured to Northern Escalator Installations’ specifications to meet the unique requirement within the escalator and elevator industry. In terms of build quality, performance, durability, mobility of usage on internal and external project sites and hydraulic telescoping and lifting capacity, these new Valla cranes will be a valuable addition to the existing fleet of mobile cranage.
The boom is fabricated with preformed and welded quality steel plate, 4 telescoping section with a lifting capacity of 9 tons.
Northern Escalator Installations selected Manitex Valla (Piacenza – ITALIA) as its preferred supplier because of their experience and reputation as the world leader in mobile industrial crane manufacture and technology, and their ability to meet NEI LLP’s precise required specification, together with good support and customer service.
The two 90 TRX cranes were acquired from Peter Hird & Sons Ltd., the U.K sales agent for Valla cranes, and represent an investment of approximately £350,000.00.

2015 saw Northern Escalator Installations LLP; (NEI) go international; with its own dedicated escalator division in Germany (Northern Escalators GmbH) based at Nienstädt. (NEI) German operation has a full complement of qualified installation engineers; together with customer service and technical sales support staff. Northern Escalators GmbH, have made significant investment within the company to meet with expansion and increased capacity, with the addition of new fully equipped service maintenance vehicles.
